“What a seller should avoid is poor presentation, shoddy workmanship and – more difficult to overcome – a badly-proportioned home,” cautions Simon Barnes. He says every room must have an obvious function. “Investing in a full makeover can pay huge dividends as no one wants to buy a grubby and unkempt home unless there’s a price reduction,” he insists.
