Buying and Selling Property in Notting Hill

Until the 1980’s Notting Hill was very much the ‘poor relation’ among the areas around Hyde Park in central London. Right up to the 1980s, the area was severely run-down area with most of the large houses which predominate converted into bedsits and flats (apartments).

However, in the last 15 years there has been a transformation in Notting Hill’s properties, their popularity and corresponding values due to the need for larger family homes and, to a not inconsiderable extent, the popularity of the film “Notting Hill which showed the area, its fine houses and lovely gardens to particularly good effect.

Notting Hill

The abundance of recently renovated properties now offers much greater scope for buyers than in Mayfair or Belgravia. Streets such as Ladbroke Square, Pembroke Square and particularly Dawson Place have become highly desirable with excellent local facilities, ample on-street parking and many attractive private gardens.

What Types of Property Can you Buy in Notting Hill?

Because of how the area has changed, there are, however, considerable differences in the type, size and location of properties, with properties in the same street having widely different amenities and value. Where some houses have plenty of space to front and rear, some are cramped, either by the street at the front or by its mews house attached or very close to the rear. Some houses will have direct access to the private garden and other may not, depending on what part or what side of the street they are in; for example, Holland Villas Road where one side backs on to the noisy Holland Road and the other the very peaceful Addison Road.

Nowadays Notting Hill is a cosmopolitan district known for the annual Notting Hill Carnival and for being home to the Portobello Road Market
